A Silobela woman has been arrested for ‘murder’ after she hit her husband with a pot and burning firewood, leading to his death. There was a misunderstanding between Leona Mbulwa and her husband Brighton Dube (29) over taking care of the family after Dube returned from having a beer. The incident occurred last Wednesday at Makande village, Malisa Chief in Silobela, at around 7pm.

Midlands Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the matter to The Mirror. Mahoko said Dube was found dead when Mbulwa returned to her home and was subsequently arrested. Circumstances indicate that Dube returned home after drinking beer and found Mbulwa preparing food in the kitchen with the couple’s three children. A misunderstanding arose regarding the family’s well-being and led to a quarrel. Mbulwa allegedly hit Dube on the forehead with a bowl she picked up from the fireplace.

Mbulwa allegedly continued to grab a burning log from the fireplace and assaulted Dube all over her body several times before a neighbor stopped her. Neighbor Halan Dubi (79 years old) stopped the quarrel and warned the young couple against domestic violence. She then took Mbulwa and her children to her parents’ house to cool off for the night. Mbulwa returned home with her neighbor at around 7am and they found Dube’s lifeless body lying in the kitchen.

The matter was reported at Silobela Police Station and Mbulwa was subsequently arrested. “Once again, the police are appealing to members of the public to resolve their disputes or disagreements amicably using third parties. The use of violence constitutes a crime and leads to unnecessary loss of life,” Mahoko said. Masvingo Mirror
