The University of Great Zimbabwe has completed the construction of a major hospital which President Mnangagwa is expected to inaugurate before the end of this year.
The hospital will be operated as a strategic business unit of the organization.
This was stated by GZU Vice-Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo at the institution’s 18th graduation ceremony on Friday.
The hospital is located on the Machava campus, 40 km from Masvingo in Machava.
Zvobgo said that for population distribution in Masvingo Province, the doctor-to-patient ratio is 1;20,000 contrary to the 1:1,000 ratio recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The University has completed the construction of the flagship Greater Zimbabwe University Hospital which will serve as a strategic business unit for the University. We will request the honor of the President’s presence to officially open this hospital before the end of the year.
“The university hospital will contribute significantly to the country’s achievement of universal health by 2030, in line with the WHO protocol,” Zvobjo said.
The university hospital will provide a range of comprehensive health coverage in promotion and prevention services, which include laboratory services, X-rays, diagnostic and therapeutic imaging, among others. Masvingo mirror
