Cde Jaison William Chezhira Chakaipa Chirinda, who was one of the first cadres to receive military training before launching the liberation struggle, was declared a national hero.
President Mnangagwa has called on the Extraordinary ZANU-PF Politburo to deliberate on the status of hero Cde Chirinda.
Cde Chirinda (82) died on 27 October 2024 due to diabetes-related complications and Zanu PF Mashonaland Central Province has applied for him to be awarded the highest honor in view of his illustrious exploits during the liberation struggle.
Briefing journalists after the Politburo meeting, ZANU-PF Secretary of Information and Publicity, Christopher Mutsvangwa, said there was consensus among Politburo members that the highest honor should be awarded to Commander Chirinda.
He said the national president of Zanu PF, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, was tasked with conveying the message to Cde Chirinda’s family in Madziva, Mashonaland Central Province, last night.
Cde Mutsvangwa said the burial date had been tentatively set for Monday next week.
