Shurugwi police have confiscated dumper trucks and other equipment belonging to the Chinese company Shining Vase for allegedly mining chromium in the Motivikwe River without a permit.
The matter is before Shorugwe Magistrate Percy Mukumba. Shining Vase represents Zhou Zhengliangand and is accused of contravening Section 140 of the Environment Agency Act Chapter 20:27 ARW Section 3(1) of the Environment Management (Control of Alluvial Mining) Amendment 2021 No. 02 of SI 104/2021 “Restriction of Alluvial Mining”.
The accident occurred on October 12. The circumstances are that the company illegally carried out chromium mining activities in contravention of the said law as it was allegedly mining within the prohibited zone 200 meters from the river bed.
