The family of the late retired Colonel Chinga Dube is divided over his burial at the National Heroes Zone in Harare.
The Standard has learned that the late MP Makukuba has expressed his desire to have his remains buried at Lady Stanley Cemetery in Bulawayo among his comrades in the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (Zpra).
Lady Stanley Cemetery became a de facto Hero’s Acre for Zebra veterans who were denied the title of National Hero.
Dube’s son, Phosa, on Thursday, confirmed the late politician’s desire to be buried at Lady Stanley Cemetery reserved for dignitaries in the city.
But yesterday, Phosa said the family decided that his father would be buried at Heroes Acre because he was a popular person.
“We were not surprised by the government’s move to declare him a national hero. His actions when he was alive speak for themselves, so it is his actions that are being honoured. He was for the people and so he belongs to the people, which means he was not ours alone, so we agreed that he should be buried in Harare.” ».
