(New Ziana) – President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday reiterated the government’s steadfast commitment to creating a vibrant education landscape, singling out student accommodation as one of the areas requiring urgent attention.
He said the government must always provide adequate resources to the sector to ensure a learning ecosystem that is flexible, adaptable and fully compatible with the diverse needs of talented youth.
At the official commission of the Chihwe Varsity Heights student accommodation and the new administration building for the Chinhoyi University of Technology, President Mnangagwa praised the Public Service Pension Fund and First Mutual for investing in the project.
The Highlands student accommodation was built by the Public Service Retirement Fund, in partnership with First Mutual, and has the capacity to accommodate 388 students.
He said that the investment is in line with the government’s pursuit of excellence in service provision, achieving the goals of the heritage-based Education 5.0 model, the national development strategy, and ultimately achieving the national vision.
“The values of hard and honest work, judicious use of resources and patriotic spirit witnessed in the various projects undertaken here at CUT must be demonstrated in all sectors of the economy and indeed in the implementation of publicly and privately funded projects, in our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe.
“Let us continue to build our country step by step, forever inspired by our development philosophy,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said the student accommodation facility demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving learners’ well-being and academic experiences as well as life on campus.
