Sixteen seventh-grade girls at a primary school in Mbere became pregnant and failed their exams. The Herald reported that this was revealed by a teacher at Munuzi Primary School.
“We submit monthly reports on school dropouts to the district. We have 16 girls in seventh grade who failed their Zimsec exams and we learned that their parents are not interested in their education,” the teacher said.
Chipita village chief, Ms Rudo Chidimbo, said such acts were common in the village, and the one-stop mobile centers would help end teenage pregnancies, early marriage and sexual assault.
She said: “Children remain victims of such acts, and it pains me that we have girls who miss taking final exams because they are pregnant.”
