A member of the politburo of the ZANU-PF party, retired Army General Engelbert Rugege, cheated death when one of the wheels of his car flew off while he was driving.
The Standard reported that sources said the car was prevented from overturning when it hit some rocks in Mount Pleasant after its front wheel came off, leaving the former army general terrified.
There were attempts to cover up the incident, but sources in the ruling party confirmed its occurrence yesterday.
Rujiji looked surprised when he told Standard People I called him
For comment.
“Who gave you this information? Where did you get this from?” Rujiji said curtly, refusing to comment further.
Rugege did not last long as Zanu PF political commissar and was sacked in 2019. He was replaced by war veteran Victor Matmatanda. Matmatanda was later transferred to Mozambique as Ambassador of Zimbabwe and was replaced in 2021 by Mike Bimha.
