STARLINK WILL NOT GET SPECIAL TREATMENT newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

The government says Starlink will be treated like any other service provider.

“When it comes to taxes, they are all the same,” ICT Minister Tatenda Mafitera said during a media briefing after the Cabinet meeting yesterday.

“Whatever applies to local ISPs also applies to Starlink. That’s why we see them being penalized if they don’t provide a working connection.”

So far, six local companies have been recognized by Starlink as distributors of telecom equipment. These companies are TelOne, Aura, Dandemutande, Frampol, Zodsat, and Paratus, which is based in Namibia and has an office in Zimbabwe.

Information Minister Jinfan Muswere said that ICT is developing at a rapid pace across the world and hence the country must embrace new technologies for its growth.
