A store manager reported two men from Harare who pretended to be officials from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and tried to extort money from him.

Taurai Zingoga (32) and Dambudzo Mbwana (40) fell into the trap when they came to receive the bribe from the Director of Equipment in Bhola, Mr. Timothy Modiridi. The duo told Mr. Modiridi that they were investigating allegations of tax evasion against the Bhola administration.

On September 14, they demanded $1,000 from Bhola management to drop the charges. On September 19, the two returned to Bhola Hardware in Msassa to pay the amount. Mr. Moderde pretended to comply and advised them to wait in the conference room to get the money.

He then informed ZACC officers and the duo were later arrested during the money extortion operation.
