Three workers at the Ok Mart Masvingo store, including the store manager, have been arrested and arraigned in court after goods worth $15,770 were stolen.
The food and beverage manager, security guard and employee were released on $100 bail.
The trio are Rebecca Chanderwa, an employee (21), Alois Makova (47), a food and beverage manager, and Junior Mahovy (25), a security guard.
The incident occurred on August 21, 2024, at approximately 10 a.m. The trio were purchasing individual units and removing the boxes from the store. Mahovy’s role was to verify the receipt.
The circumstances are that Shandirwa who was off duty went to the store and bought 100 units of lemon jade soap 250g, 100 units of pink jade soap 250g, 100 units of honey jade soap 250g, and 100 units of white jade bath soap 250g.
She met with Makova and Mahov and thought up a plan to rob the supermarket.
The three allegedly stole 380 boxes of jade soap worth US$7,220. They allegedly stole 100 boxes each containing 250g x 20 of lemon jade soap, 100 boxes each containing 250g x 20 of pink jade soap, and 100 boxes each containing 250g x 20 of white jade soap.
Later that day at around 1pm, Makova purchased 62 units of 400ml Cascade Orange Drinks and 70 units of 400ml Cascade Baobab Drinks.
After the purchase, the trio stole 62 boxes of Cascade Orange 400ml x 20 and 70 boxes of Cascade Baobab 400ml x 20 worth US$1,755,60.
Chanderwa bought 150 units of 2kg Econo white rice and 150 units of 400g Econo spaghetti. The trio then colluded to steal 150 boxes of 2kg Econo rice x 10 and 150 boxes of 400g Econo spaghetti x 20 against what she had paid.
