An attempt by Ignatius Chombo, former leader of the Zanu PF party, to block the downsizing of his farm by the government has failed in the High Court.
Chombo has occupied Allan Grange Farm in Zvimba for more than 22 years, having signed a 99-year lease with the government. He has approached the High Court challenging the intention to cancel the lease by Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Anchius Jongoi Masuka.
High Court judge Justice Jacob Manzonzo dismissed Chombo’s application with costs, holding that “this is not an appropriate case for the court to exercise its discretion in favor of granting the declaratory orders sought. The application is dismissed and will be dismissed with costs on the ordinary scale,” Justice Manzonzo said.
