A helicopter carrying the Iranian president appears to have crashed after running into difficulties in bad weather conditions.
President Ibrahim Raisi was riding in a helicopter near Julfa on the border with Azerbaijan, when he suffered a “hard landing,” according to state television.
A rescue operation is underway, and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged people to pray for President Raisi’s health.
He said: “We hope that God Almighty will return the esteemed and beloved president and his companions to the embrace of the homeland.”
He added: “The Iranian people should not worry or worry, and there will be no disturbance in the country’s affairs.”
The Iranian Islamic Republic News Agency reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and other officials were on board the helicopter.
State television reported that rescuers were trying to reach the site, but bad weather conditions in the area hampered them. Heavy rain was reported with some wind.
Iranian state television reported that search teams found the crashed helicopter. There is no update yet on the condition of those on board.
