The High Court yesterday reserved judgment on Neville Mutsvangwa’s bail application. This means he will spend another weekend in remand prison. He faces three felony charges of illegal foreign currency dealing and one of possession of an unlicensed Starlink router.
Mutsvangwa’s lawyer, Josephine Sandi, requested bail for her client arguing that the prosecution had no case against Mutsvangwa and other suspects Elias Magachane and Simbarashe Tshingana.
The lawyer said the remand court had erred in directing itself to deny bail to Mutsvangwa and his co-accused, arguing that the prosecution linked its evidence to the Visa cards seized from Mutsvangwa’s home in Mount Pleasant.
Ms Sandy said possession of Visa cards was not a crime, nor was it evidence that someone was involved in illegal cash handling or money laundering. In the District Court, Mr. Mangosi refused bail to the three on the grounds that they might be tempted to abscond.
