A sixty-year-old patient, who sneaked out of Gwanda District Hospital and disappeared, was found dead on Tuesday.
Ranger Moyo who disappeared around 10pm, on April 30, 2024, was found by a young man in the bush along the Manzamnyama River with his body in an advanced state of decomposition.
Moyo suffered from amnesia and always insisted on leaving the hospital and returning to his country house. The incident raised questions about the security of patients in government hospitals.
Matabeleland South Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena, confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing.
“Moyo was reported missing after he was discharged from Gwanda Hospital at around 10pm on April 30, 2024. His body was discovered by a young man on May 7, in a densely wooded area near Manzamanyama,” Masvingo Mirror said.
