A five-month-old baby girl was killed during an argument between her parents in Mberengwa area.
Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident and said police were appealing for information that could assist in the arrest of the suspect.
“We confirm the death of a five-month-old baby in Mberengwa and the suspect has not yet been arrested. We are appealing for information that may lead to his arrest,” Mahoko said.
The parents, namely Faith Mpofu and Erinando Makena both from Mosvubi village, Chief Mataros Mberingwa, had a long-standing dispute over the paternity of the child with the father claiming that his wife had been impregnated by someone else before their marriage.
It is alleged that on the fateful day, while her husband was away, Mpofu packed her belongings and left for her parents’ house.
Mpofu failed to get transport to Zvishavane and took refuge at Mudzimo’s house near Bedford Business Centre, Mberengwa.
Upon his return home, Erinando conducted his own investigations into Mpofu’s whereabouts and followed Mudzimo’s house.
The now deceased Mpofu, Anita Makena was strapped on her back, Erinando arrived and assaulted her with a switch and beat the now deceased in the process which led to her death. Telezem News
