Magistrate Diana Masiyiwa has remanded a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer stationed at Chiredzi Police Camp on charges of stealing three 20 packs of Luck Strike (Everest) cigarettes from OK Chiredzi supermarket.

Anderson Chazizi (36) of 1224 Mugadza Street, Chovane, Chiredzi faces three counts of theft.

Chazizi had already pleaded guilty to stealing the packages on March 11, 22 and April 28, 2024, when he was arrested.

He told the court that he could not buy biscuits and resorted to theft on the three occasions.

Chasayzi went away unnoticed on the first two occasions. He hid the package in tissues the second time.

On the fateful day, an employee monitored his movements. Chazizi hid the pack of cigarettes in his trouser pockets and also took a loaf of bread with which he went to the table.

He used his bank card to pay for the bread and it was declined. Security arrested him on his way out, based on the employee’s instructions.

Well, Chiredzi branch manager, Progress Tadirika, lodged a police report which led to his arrest.
