uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party) founder Jabulani Khumalo is seeking to remove former president Jacob Zuma as MK Party president.

Khumalo, who was removed as MK party president last month and expelled from the organisation, has written to the South African Electoral Commission (IEC) asking the electoral body to remove Zuma, who currently serves as the face of the party, from the ballot. .

“I am writing to you in my capacity as Chairman of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party. This is to request that Mr Zuma’s name as the face and Chairman of the MKP be immediately removed.

“He holds both positions through fraudulent and illegal maneuvers,” he said in a letter to the Independent Electoral Commission.

Khumalo said that while Zuma helped raise money to register the Knesset Party with the Independent Electoral Commission, the former president was not the organisation’s founder.

“At all times, it was always understood that Mr Zuma was not a member of MKP, but would assist in the campaign.

“Indeed, when he announced his decision to vote and campaign for MKP on 16 December 2023, he made it clear that he would remain a member of the ANC,” he added.

Khumalo said he went to Zuma for advice before he launched MKP.
