The Democratic Alliance (DA) has come under criticism from several quarters for its recent election announcement.
The short ad shows an image of the South African flag burning.
The announcement was launched at the party’s headquarters in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.
It has since been posted on various social media platforms.
Speaking to the media on Sunday evening, Democratic Party leader John Steenhausen said the party wanted to convey an urgent warning about the dangers facing the country’s constitutional democracy.
“What you will see in this ad is a symbolic representation of the future that awaits South Africa if people do not vote for the development agenda.
“It is a warning of what the future of this country will look like under a doomsday alliance between the ANC, the EFF, and perhaps also the MK and small mercenary parties like the National Alliance,” he said. Steenhausen
In the ad, a voiceover can be heard warning of the demise of South Africa under the ANC-Foreign Front alliance.
Steenhuisen believes the ANC, EFF and Zuma’s faction They could decide to work together after the 2024 elections, making matters worse for South Africa.
“The Doomsday Alliance will expropriate property without compensation and abolish private property rights. The Doomsday Alliance will nationalize and destroy foreign investments, companies, banks and mines.
“The doomsday alliance will plunge this country into an ethnic and racial conflict the likes of which it has never seen before. The cold, hard truth is that the doomsday alliance between the ANC and the EFF has already captured Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni with the help of its petty proxies.
“Next year, he will be knocking on the doors of the Union Buildings.
“This is a fact that should send shivers down the spine of every patriot and freedom-loving person in this country,” Steenhausen said.
The announcement was not well received by South Africans, who felt that the Attorney General had no respect for the flag.
Former Solicitor-General Thuli Madonsela was among the first people to comment, saying burning the flag was unwise.
“This seems to show disrespect and disloyalty to the flag, which for many of us is more than just a flag but a symbol of victory over apartheid,” Madonsela said. “In some countries, burning the flag is a crime.” JcarandaFM
