11 people have been arrested for impersonating medical staff at Parirenyatwa Hospital Group in Harare.
The hospital said in a statement that the suspects who were later handed over to the police were posing as doctors and teachers at the hospital.
“From January 2024 to date, the same department has picked up 11 such cases and they have been dealt with accordingly. The hospital said fake doctors, fake teachers who blackmail student nurses and thieves who steal from staff and patients are among those criminals who were arrested and handed over to the police.
This comes after 33 violators were arrested by the hospital security department in 2023.
The hospital also allayed concerns that three recently arrested fake doctors had not seen any patients.
“Parirenyatwa Hospital Group has always made efforts to protect the public from unscrupulous persons who masquerade as our staff with malicious intentions to deceive unsuspecting members of the public,” the hospital said.
Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is a huge organization with approximately 400 doctors of all professional levels and a total staff of approximately 4,000.
“Unscrupulous people exploit our breadth and complexity to conduct nefarious activities. Fortunately, our monitoring teams remain vigilant and have consistently caught these unruly elements who attempt to hack and abuse our systems.
“Our surveillance teams will continue to remove criminals intent on abusing the public’s trust in our institution.” Site
