15 people were reported killed in an accident near Beatrice along the Masvingo-Harare road at 4pm today.
The accident occurred between three vehicles. A truck tried to overtake a Volkswagen Polo, hit it from behind and entered the other lane, resulting in a head-on collision with a Sprinter Kombi carrying 44 passengers.
National Police spokesman Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident. It was a Volkswagen Polo with only a driver and the truck was heading towards Harare.
The accident occurred on the 53 km line. Fourteen passengers died on the spot, one died in Beatrice Hospital and 29 passengers were injured while the truck driver was seriously injured.
Chivo Traffic Police arrived at the scene.
