Zwelani Mpofu, a 43-year-old cross-border transport worker, is seeking urgent help from specialists to remove a bullet lodged in his chin.

Mpofu, who resides in South Africa but hails from Imkhaini in Tsholotsho under the leadership of Chief Tatigulu, was ambushed by armed robbers while traveling to Zimbabwe on December 6, 2023.

During the attack, a bullet hit his chin, causing him excruciating pain and paralyzing his right hand.

Recalling the horrific ordeal, Mpofu said he needed medical and financial assistance because his ability to support his family had been affected.

He said: “They were trying to steal our car, so the bullet hit my chin and settled in my neck. I feel severe pain and my right hand is currently paralyzed.”

“I am pleading for help, even if I can get a doctor who can help remove the bullet. I am even asking for any help because now I am disabled, I used to work in cross-border transport but now I cannot support my family.

His uncle, Billat Ndebele, revealed that Mpofu was hospitalized for three months at Potlokwa Hospital in South Africa after the attack.

He was discharged from the hospital two months ago, but the bullet remained stuck and he now suffers from partial paralysis.

Ndebele said his nephew is still undergoing physical therapy sessions.

“We are calling for a specialist to help him, even we are confused because when one doctor wanted to operate on him, the other one said it is not a good idea because the bullet is in a critical area, so we don’t know which one and he said: ‘He is a family man with children but now all “Something is off.”
