A suspected fake doctor, who allegedly exposed himself after he was seen holding upside down X-rays and analyzing them in front of a patient at a hospital in Harare, has been arrested and taken to court.
The complainant is Watmore Tarugarera (43), a loss control officer at Parirenyatwa Hospital Group in Harare.
Douglas Garekai Mutredzanwa appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him in custody until 29 April.
The court noted that Motoredzanwa had an outstanding arrest warrant in another case in 2019.
He asked the court to release him because he wanted to visit his wife in the hospital, who has a newborn baby and is sick.
Motredzanwa made a false representation to the court that he had no previous convictions and that the other case he had was complete.
When asked if he was a doctor, he told the judge that he was a nurse.
The State alleged that on April 23, Motredzanwa went to consulting room No. 2 of Parilinyatwa Hospital.
He made the mistake of telling Wilson Takodzwa Kurangwa, a doctor who was on duty to treat a patient, that he was also a doctor and was treating a patient.
Motredzanwa obtained an X-ray film from Kurangwa and pretended to analyze it, eliciting some comments while the film was upside down.
He then left the x-ray film behind, took two surgical blades, the pethidine medication, three syringes, some cotton, two sensitive cannula strips, and a pair of gloves and went out with them.
Kurangwa then became suspicious of the manner in which Mutredzanwa was holding the x-rays and informed Tarugarera, the complainant on the matter.
Tarugarera then cooperated with some security guards and arrested the suspected fake doctor, after he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the purpose of his visit to the hospital.
The court heard that Motoredzanwa was searched and two surgical blades, pethidine medication, three syringes, some cotton, two sensitive cannula strips and a pair of gloves were recovered.
