It’s now official – the marriage of celebrity couple Edward Sadomba and his wife Sherlyn is falling apart, and at this pace, divorce seems imminent.
Ironically, until H-Metro broke the story of the challenges that destroyed their marriage yesterday, they were hailed as a model celebrity couple in this country.
Such was the pair’s closeness that our sister newspaper, The Sunday Mail, once described them as “like coffee and cake and salt and pepper or rum and coke”.
On Tuesday, H-Metro sources informed us that the couple’s disagreements involved bad fallout between them, which ended up spilling into the hands of the police.
H-Metro reporters were told that the case will be heard at the Mbare Magistrate Court.
Sadomba arrived at court accompanied by his lawyer, Charles Wara.
His wife, Sherlyn, arrived later.
However, the duo did not appear before the judge after the investigating officer decided that there were outstanding statements that were supposed to be recorded from witnesses before the matter was ready to be heard.
Sources said Sadomba regularly locked his wife outside the matrimonial home on several occasions when she returned home in the evening.
Yesterday, all speculation came to an end when it emerged that Sherlyn had indeed approached the Harare Civil Court seeking a peace order against the former Dembar star player.
This is an escalation of the case and appears to suggest that Sadomba may have been a violent husband who was abusive to his wife, who works as a prosecutor, in the Harare Magistrates Court.
It would be a huge impact for Sadomba who has so far been celebrated as one of the best role models in local football.
It has now emerged that although they share the same house, the couple sleep in different wings of their home.
Sources are now open to H-Metro, especially after the peace order request, with some revealing that the couple received counselling, on a number of occasions, at police stations.
The consultation came in the wake of reports submitted by Sherlyn accusing her husband of mistreating her.
A source said: “This has been going on for some time and there were whispers, when Sherlyn wore a neck brace, that she was injured during a fall at home after being attacked, but this cannot be proven.”
“Now that this case has spilled into the public domain and I have applied for a protection order against Sadomba, it means there is a hint of some truth in those whispers.
“It is clear that a woman like Sherlyn would weigh the consequences of such a move such as filing for protection.
“She is a prosecutor and she knows this will attract media attention and be uncomfortable for his children and for her reputation as someone who works with the public.
“But for her to continue with this step indicates that she has reached a point where she has said enough is enough, and anything that comes will not be worse than the abuse she is suffering.
“It’s sad, when you think about it, because this is the couple that everyone admired and they’ve been together for so long.”
Sherlyn revealed to the Herald that she met Sadomba in 2001.
“I met him in 2001 when I visited my grandmother in Mbare,” she said.
“We dated from then until we got married in 2008.
“I’ve been quite touched by his fame in a good way because he’s someone who loves people and has a lot of respect from his supporters and the general community, which is good for me.
“In a negative way, our lives are as open as the sky, and we’re mostly in the public eye. It’s not a good place to be in all the time.”
In another interview with the Sunday Mail, she said:
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m a proud wife but sometimes you want to run your own race and have your own personal identity – with your credit and accomplishments – other than being someone’s wife or mother.” h metro
