In a tragic turn of events, a mother and her disabled child lost their lives in a devastating house fire in Ward 5, Thandabantu Village, Incisa.
The incident was not discovered until the morning, which led to a state of mourning in the community, and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
Confirming the incident, Ward 5 councilor Ngobe Masunga revealed that the police had not collected the bodies of the deceased on Wednesday afternoon.
He said the woman was popularly known as NaNhlanhla.
He said: “I confirm that two people died in a hut because of hell, a mother and her disabled child.”
“This incident appears to have occurred at night; Their remains have not been removed yet, but we were able to contact the police to alert them, and they promised to come and remove them.”
Masunga said the community hoped the police would conduct a thorough investigation.
“We don’t know what happened, and we are leaving everything in the hands of the police to do their full investigation and tell us what happened, but from our observation as villagers, we cannot rule out the presence of a crime. Maybe something happened,” he said.
Reflecting on the impact of the loss, Masunga lamented the challenges faced by the deceased mother and her child, as they often sought help due to the child’s special needs.
“I know these two people as villagers who used to stay here; her child was disabled, they could ask for help here and there, and as leaders, we could help most of the time because the child needed special care. All their documents were burned with them.”
“This incident hurts us, especially in Thandabantu village because someone who was struggling died. It was sad to see how she and her child survived under these circumstances.”
Masunga urged the police to quickly investigate the matter and hold anyone responsible accountable.
However, Matabeleland South Provincial Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Stanford Mgoni, said the police had yet to receive an official report on the incident. Site
