President Emmerson Mnangagwa has revealed his relationship with CIA Director-General Isaac Moyo, confirming the existence of an open secret in the corridors of power that his government is full of relatives, friends and cronies.
Mnangagwa said this on Friday during the funeral ceremony of Moyo’s late daughter, Shumirai Sandra Moyo, who died of a brain cancer-related illness in Dublin, Ireland, early this month.
Shumirai was buried in Rutinga, Mwenezi, Masvingo Province on Sunday.
Addressing mourners in Harare on Friday, Mnangagwa said: “My relationship with Mr Moyo is deep; He calls my wife my sister and I call him Sikoro (uncle). He told me everything that happened until his daughter died. I was with him all the way and was updated every time on the progress. I feel proud to be here.
“I thank all who came here to offer condolences to the ambassador and his family.”
Mnangagwa then went on to reveal that Shumirai had a keen political ambition to remove CCC Harare West opposition Joana Mamombe from her parliamentary seat.
“She was involved in politics which shows how patriotic she is. A lot of children are not directly involved in politics. We have gathered here to pay our last respects to the two patriots of our nation. She had a passion to remove Joanna Mamombe from her constituency and was very sad that she could not complete Her journey and no one knows what awaits us except God. I came here to see Sikoro Fango (my uncle).
This comes as Mnangagwa faces a public perception that he is implementing Karanja’s project of ethnic hegemony in Zimbabwe, where his government is dominated by his political allies mainly from the Midlands and Masvingo provinces.
The government of the late former President Robert Mugabe was run and controlled by his Zizuru ethnic group.
Shumirai’s mother is Priscilla Zendari Moyo, the Zanu PF MP for Mwenezi West.
He helped Moyo Mnangagwa come to power during the battle to succeed Mugabe in 2017.
To manage the security sector and ensure anti-coup strategies, Moyo was recalled from South Africa, where he was the country’s ambassador and appointed head of the information department.
Chiwenga described Shumirai as a cheerful person and revealed that he once addressed a crowd she gathered.
He said the President came to console the family since he had worked closely with Moyo for a very long time. Newshox
