The City of Harare has launched a campaign to remove illegal billboards on all roads under its jurisdiction.
In a statement, the city urged businesses and residents to remove the illegally installed billboards immediately.
“The exercise will witness all the people who were illegally installed “Billboards are being fined,” the council said.
“All unpaid billboards are considered illegal and will be removed.
“Wall murals installed without council approval will also be destroyed.”
Some Harare residents lauded the council’s scheduled operation to remove the unmaintained billboards, urging the municipality not to stop there but clean up the entire city.
“Removing old billboards that are not maintained is a good idea, and with a little initiative from every citizen we can start cleaning up our city,” said Nanette Ullmark, a resident of our city.
“Imagine if every home and business cleaned their front eaves?
“Residents need to feel some pride in their country and their capital so they stop littering and destroying.”
Another resident, Matthew Kunieda, said:
“The removal of these unmaintained billboards is long overdue. The local authority must also remove all unnecessary street advertising from all roads.
“The council should be making money through advertising.” h metro
