ROBBER TRIES TO DISARM COP, SHOT AND INJURED newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

A 35-year-old armed robber was shot dead in Bulawayo on Saturday after he tried to disarm a police officer who was armed with a CZ pistol loaded with six bullets.

James Moyo was shot in the stomach by police and was taken to United Hospitals Bulawayo for treatment.

National Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a shooting incident involving robbery suspect, James Moyo, aged 35, which occurred at Queen’s Park, Bulawayo, on 20 April 2024. The shooting incident follows the arrest of the suspect as well as Tinashe Dimbore, an adult aged 29 and Mthulisi aged 29 in a case of robbery which occurred at Gonia Shopping Centre, Mahachula North, Bulawayo, on 20 April 2024, at approximately 15:00.

Upon being arrested, Moyo dropped his machete and attempted to disarm a police officer who was armed with a loaded CZ pistol.

“The police subsequently shot the suspect in the stomach and he was transferred to Bulawayo United Hospitals for treatment. The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that any form of confrontation with police officers will be met with an appropriate response.
