FORMER MUTARE MAYOR, TRANSPORTER, DIES newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

Former Mutare mayor, businessman and transporter, Enoch Samson Mosabeka is no more

He died this morning at the age of 91.

He breathed his last at Murambi Gardens Hospital in Mutare after a long battle with heart and kidney failure.

His eldest son Farai confirmed his death to the Chipping Times. He said that the late transport tycoon would be buried on Wednesday at his farm in Odzanai lands at 2pm.

Musabaeka is one of the first black transport companies which at one point had a fleet of 80 buses operating in Manicaland, Harare, Midlands and Bulawayo provinces.

Mourners gathered at 6 Duiker Crescent, Murambi and Mutare. “The family has lost a support and a unifier,” Farai said.

He also served as Executive Mayor of Mutare for two terms from 1984 to 1991.

Mosabeka was born on 15 December 1933 in Southdown, Chipping. He attended Shikwa Primary School and went on to Mount Selinda Secondary School where he obtained a carpentry certificate.

He taught carpentry at Gwenzi Primary School and at Old Mutare Mission from 1956 to 1959 when he bought his first bus.

The late transport tycoon also served as a board member of the Beverley Building Society (BBS), Insurance Brokers of Zimbabwe and the South African Reinsurance Company. He also served as the Manicaland District President of the Red Cross and Rotary Club and was the National General Secretary of the Zimbabwe Rural Transport Organisers.

He leaves behind his wife, Jane, six children, 28 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Masvingo mirror
