A 27-year-old man from Karowe in Mashonaland West has been sentenced to six months in prison for sleeping with a 15-year-old girl.
The unnamed man was found guilty of having sex with a minor by a Karoi judge. He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, including six suspected months, for a period of five years on the condition that he does not commit a similar crime during that period.
In a statement on X, the Zimbabwe National Prosecuting Authority said, sometime in October last year, the accused offered to have sex with the girl and she accepted.
On 19 March of this year, the complainant stole the keys to her room, which her sister-in-law had left in her mother’s care. Then she sneaked into the room without her sister-in-law knowing who the accused was and where they had sexual intercourse.
“The next day, she took the accused to the room where they had sex all night.”
The girl’s mother found the two in the room and reported the matter to the police, which led to the arrest of the accused. Announce
