A convict serving a prison sentence for stealing four Honda Fit cars to go out with his girlfriends has also been jailed for six years, for another charge of stealing a Honda Fit.
Denzel Gingikwa, who was already serving a 12-year prison sentence, appeared on trial before Bulawayo magistrate Joseph Mapeza, facing a charge of car theft. He pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was convicted and imprisoned for 10 years. However, the judge suspended him for four years on the condition of good behavior for a period of five years. Gingikwa will effectively spend another six years behind bars on top of the sentence he was already serving.
The judge said that Gingikwa used sophisticated means to carry out the robbery when he opened cars without using the car keys and planned the robbery. He said that he thus deprived the victim of his car, which he used to obtain money for his livelihood.
The court heard that Admir Ncube, 24, parked his car at Corner 8th Avenue and Robert Mugabe Street in Bulawayo and locked all the doors before going about his business in the city.
When he returned, he was shocked to discover that his car was gone. He reported the matter to the police. Detectives from the Bulawayo Vehicle Theft Squad skillfully conducted investigations and recovered the car dumped in a bush near the suburb of Entombane. B metro
