The man widely known as “Detective Kida”, a private investigator, allegedly kidnapped a woman and dumped her at Harare Central Police Station.
Tafadzwa Chidawa, known as “Detective Kiddha”, was investigating the woman at the request of her boyfriend.
He was dragged to court yesterday.
The court heard that on March 5, Chidawa and his five accomplices contacted Salloum Gandia, claiming he was her boyfriend’s cousin.
Chidawa invited Gandia to meet him at Caledon Stores, along Siki Road, and hired a taxi driven by Watson Gatsi.
The two headed to Caledon Stores where they were approached by Chidawa and his accomplices who introduced themselves as police detectives from Harare Central Police Station.
They told Gandia and the driver that they were under arrest because she lied to her boyfriend that she was pregnant.
They handcuffed Gandia and used violence to force her into a car that was heading to Mutare Road.
Gandia then called her friend to inform him of her kidnapping.
After overhearing the conversation, the gang returned to Harare and dropped Gandia and Gatsi at Harare Central Police Station.
The two duly filed a police report.
The State, represented by Profaro Chunzi, opposed bail and key evidence presented by the investigating officer revealed that Chidawa escaped from police custody after his arrest.
The matter is back in court today where Judge Dennis Mangosi is expected to make a bail ruling. h metro
