ZANU PF has expelled former Mutare North legislator, Mr Patsirai Bimhinai, and suspended Regional Women’s League president, Ms Happiness Nyakwedzwa, from holding any position in the ruling party for the next two years.
Zanu PF provincial chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza, on Wednesday confirmed the expulsion of Mr Pemhenayi and the suspension of Ms Nyakuedza with immediate effect by the Politburo.
Cde Mukodza further said that the ruling party brought back its former National Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde Kudzi Chipanga, Cde Robert Nyemudzo, from Chipinge South and Cde Pride Chadambuka.
Cde Mukodza said Mr Bimhinai had expelled himself by joining a rival political party.
“When you join another party, you have automatically expelled yourself from Zanu PF. You cannot belong to two political parties at once. You only have one choice in politics and you cannot back out. You either belong to Zanu PF or to the other side, not both. According to the Politburo, Bimhinai chose his own path and was subsequently expelled from the party.”
Ms Nyakuedzwa has been suspended from holding any position in the party until 2026, Cde Mukodza said.
“I have received calls about stopping it, but I cannot say much because the Politburo will make further announcements about it. I cannot comment on the substantive details of the case as I am awaiting further guidance from the party leadership,” he said.
The Manica Post is in possession of a copy of the decision to suspend Ms Nyakwedzwa by party Secretary-General Dr Hubert Mpofu dated 7 March 2024.
The suspension of Ms. Nyakwedzwa was in line with Article 36, Section 531, Subsection (4) of the amended party constitution.
“This letter informs you that the Political Bureau held at its 372nd regular session on February 29, 2024 has upheld the ruling of the National Disciplinary Committee and changed the punishment from three years to two years.
“You are therefore suspended from holding any leadership position in the party for a period of two years with immediate effect. The suspension is in accordance with the amended Zanu PF Constitution, Article 36, Section 531, Subsection (4).”
In separate but also similar letters dated 7 March 2024, Dr Mpofu advised Cdes Chipanga, Nyemudzo and Chadambuka that their readmission to the party would be with immediate effect.
“This letter informs you that the Politburo, meeting at its 372nd regular session on February 29, 2024, has agreed to re-admit you to the party with immediate effect.
“You are now free to participate in all programs and activities of the party without any bias with immediate effect. You can now enjoy the full rights and duties of being a member of Zanu PF as stipulated in Article 3 of the Zanu PF Constitution.
Cde Mukodza urged party members to embrace the returning cadres, adding that the party needs every party member to push it to greater heights.
Cde Mukodza said the party is in a vibrant state and is excited to host this year’s National Independence Day celebrations in Murambinda.
“The party is in a cheerful mood and every party member is looking forward to welcoming President Mnangagwa and all the delegates to Murambinda.
“We would like to thank President Mnangagwa for choosing Manicaland to host the National Independence Day celebrations this year. We are happy that a number of developments are taking place in Murambinda. Business is also booming in the town center where all the lodges and hotels are fully booked. We would like to thank President Mnangagwa for this gesture.
“As a party, we are mobilizing a lot of people from all regions to attend the event. Everything, including logistics, is ready. We are just waiting for the big day to arrive,” he said.
