AGRIC4Patron First Lady Dr. Auxilia Mnangagwa has a thriving garden and various other projects in her backyard and she practices what she preaches when encouraging women to use their hands to nourish their families.
A garden in which a variety of vegetables are grown is always green and thriving.
Using this small space, Amai Mnangagwa also raises a breed of chicken called Brahma, road birds, broilers, rabbits and quails.
The First Lady, a farmer in her own right, shows the women the wonders one can create with the small plots of land at their disposal.
The Mother of the Nation, a practical and results-oriented person, plants, weeds and waters her garden herself.
Dr. Mnangagwa often advises growing his own food and vegetables, which helps meet the nutritional needs of families and removes pressure on budgets, thus contributing to reducing gender-based violence.
She grows vegetables that include a rare squash product called Menina Rajada and Mini Paulista squash, which is originally from Russia.
The Mother of the Nation purchased pumpkin seeds from Russia during her working visit to that country with the aim of giving the local farmers variety since the production is so huge compared to our local pumpkins.
It also distributes seeds to local farmers so they can obtain a variety of products.
Other vegetables in her garden include bush potatoes, which women in Manicaland learned about during outdoor cooking competitions.
It also has butter beans, spinach, tomatoes, onions, and carrots.
Kofu, tsonga, kale, comfrey, leafy greens, cabbage, cauliflower, peas, garlic, lettuce and corn complete the long list of vegetables you grow.
Dr Mnangagwa, who has a passion for women empowerment, has also opened doors for many women to venture into ventures such as poultry production and horticulture marketing, by providing them with starter packs that leave no one behind.
It also frequently dehydrates vegetables for distribution to the needy and also for nutrition programs for school children and the elderly.
“I do this regularly to help those in need. People should always have food to meet their nutritional needs, and whenever I reach out to them, as a mother, I always have something to offer them. I urge women to utilize any piece of land they have even in their backyards to do gardening and grow different types of Vegetables. “This means you don’t have to keep looking for money to buy things that you can support or raise yourself,” she said.
Through the Angel of Hope Foundation, the First Lady has been a beacon of hope to the less fortunate people by constantly providing them with food items to meet their nutritional and other basic needs.
Her efforts are a great lesson for all women to learn to use their hands for the benefit of their communities and families. Announce
