Police have intercepted a smuggled quantity of Mbangi (Daga) and illegal cough syrup smuggled into the country through the Beitbridge border post.
The value of the illicit drugs shipped to Bulawayo has yet to be confirmed.
A source close to the investigations said that the car registered in South Africa was intercepted on Tuesday after it was found to be carrying 28 kilograms of Mbangi.
After the car driver realized that he had been arrested, he disappeared from the border.
The official said that after further searching, they discovered another consignment of Mbanigye packed in small bags and cartons of Benylin cough syrup that were hidden in a false compartment of the trailer.
Acting Beitbridge District Police Commander Felisani Ndebele confirmed the incident but was unable to provide further details.
