Zanu-PF president for Chiundura region and also a freedom fighter, Gideon Mobuta (77), has been arrested on charges of seizing state land and dividing it to party supporters.
Mobuta was arrested along with Lovemore Hongwe (64), also a freedom fighter.
The two appeared before Gweru District Magistrate, Politi Dube, today to face allegations of breaching Section 63 of the Land Commission Act, Cap 20:29. They were imprisoned until April 14, 2024.
The state, represented by the Gweru District Lands Officer, Nyasha Nyamakaru, said that during the period from 2011 to 17 January 2024, the war veterans seized Umhale Farm in Chiundura and divided it into 5 hectares of land which they illegally allocated to ZANU-PF supporters.
They violated the Land Commission Act which states that it is a criminal offense to allocate, distribute, transfer, set aside, assign, subdivide, sell, dispose of, donate or give away any piece of land without the written permission or approval of the state.
