TOWN CLERK SUSPENDED AS HE SIGNS PERFORMANCE CONTRACT WITH ED newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

CHINHOYI City Clerk, Maxwell Cayetano, has been suspended for failing to carry out his duties, H-Metro has revealed.

However, the issue appears to be a difficult one for the council to handle, with some saying there was a procedural glitch because the mayor, Owen Choroza, did not attend the meeting.

Cayetano, a lawyer, was relieved of his duties during the extraordinary meeting of the full council held last week in the council chamber.

The meeting, which suspended the city clerk, was chaired by the city’s deputy mayor, Councilor Tshepo Mlotshwa.

Ironically, Cayetano and Mayor Owen Charoza were in Harare to attend the signing of performance-based contracts.

Council spokesperson Tishona Mlozi told H-Metro that he did not attend the meeting that suspended the city clerk.

“The mayor and the city employee were in Harare where they were signing their performance-based contracts with President Ed Mnangagwa, so I have no comment at the moment.

“I will have to wait until the full council minutes are commented on,” Mlozi said.

Charoza declined to comment and referred all cases to Mlotshwa.

“I’m sure you heard it right, the meeting was chaired by the Deputy Mayor (DM) so she is the best to answer that.

“You want to hear what happened.

“I’m not the right person for you to ask. I’m sorry about that,” Charosa said.

Deputy Mayor Malochwa said: “I do not have much to say about the aforementioned suspension pending the implementation of the council’s decision,” said Malochwa.

Chairman of the Chinhoyi Combined Residents Association (CCRA), Tendayi Musunza, said:

“TC’s suspension was long overdue.” h metro
