In a rare and unusual tragedy, two motorcyclists, each carrying a passenger, died in a head-on collision that occurred at an intersection near London Shops in the Mutasa area.
Acting Manicaland Provincial Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the rare incident.
He said that one of the motorcyclists, named Silent Farrow, who was coming from a side road, failed to give way to his counterpart, Richard Chorro, who was coming from another side road, which led to a head-on collision near the London shops.
The two bikers were taken to Punda Mission Hospital where they died on admission.
“Richard Chorro (26 years old) was riding an unregistered red Lifan motorcycle, while Silent Farrow was riding a blue, unregistered motorcycle. Shoroa was traveling along the cobblestone Nyarumvurwe Road towards London Shops with one passenger on board. Farrow was cycling along an unnamed side road towards the main cobblestone road of Nyarumvurwi with the aim of crossing the main road to Nyanga.
“When approaching the intersection of the unmarked road, Farrow who was on the bypass road failed to give way to Chorwa, resulting in a collision at the intersection. “Due to the impact of the collision, all parties sustained serious injuries and were taken to Punda Mission Hospital where they died,” he said. In a separate incident, a 48-year-old man, Angirai Ruwa, died after the car he was traveling in veered off the road, overturned once and fell into a ravine along the Juba-Kuba road in the Chief Ngorima area.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said Michael Mhika was driving a white Nissan UD80 truck along the Juba-Cuba road.
The truck was carrying sand and had five passengers on board. On the approach to the Cuba Business Centre, where there is a steep incline and a sharp turn, Mhika’s car developed a brake failure and he failed to control it.
He added, “The vehicle veered off the road to the left before overturning once. It fell into the valley, resulting in the passengers being ejected from the truck. Rua died on the spot.”
“A police report has been lodged at Chipping Police Station. He added that the passengers on board the plane and Mhika were injured and were taken to Chiping District Hospital for treatment. Manica Post
