The operator’s license of Simlex bus company has been suspended following a fatal bus accident in South Africa that has so far killed 15 Zimbabweans.
In a statement yesterday, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Felix Mhuna ordered the suspension of the company’s operations until it fully complies with all relevant regulatory frameworks and policies.
Zimbabwean nationals died in the Western Cape province when a cross-border Semlex bus collided with a transport truck along the Hicks River corridor, about 140 kilometers from Cape Town on Saturday.
Minister Muhanna mourned the victims of the accident and confirmed that the operator’s license had been suspended.
“We mourn the loss of our dear brothers and sisters who died in this accident. Our prayers are also with the survivors and injured as they continue to receive treatment and care.
We wish them a speedy recovery. The accident is another call to all transport operators, motorists and members of the public to adhere to road traffic rules and be careful on the road.
“I have directed the Road Motor Transport Commissioner to implement the relevant provisions of the Road Motor Transport Act (Cap. 13:15), including, among others, the suspension of operations until the operator fully complies with all relevant regulatory and policy frameworks,” he said. . Announce
