The board of directors of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has threatened to take legal action against former CEO Ms Adelaide Chikungoro if she does not formally file a complaint in the courts of law.
This comes against the backdrop of Ms Chikungoro’s persistent social media posts following her resignation from the state broadcaster on March 1, in which she accused the board of breaching her contract among other issues.
In a statement issued yesterday, the ZBC board gave Ms Chikungoro 48 hours to implement her threats to seek legal justice, and if that fails, it will seek a High Court decree of permanent silence.
“The Board advises Ms. Chikungoro to pursue her allegations, if any, through due process and notes her continued suggestion that she be briefed by her lawyers.
“The Board of Directors publicly states that there is no merit in the allegations against the Board of Directors and the Company. To this end, the Board of Directors calls on it to implement its threats to resort to law against the Company within the next 48 hours.
“Failing to do so, the Board reserves the right to approach the Supreme Court for a perpetual silence decree calling on it to file the threatened legal action or preserve its integrity forever.”
The board of directors said: “This decision is necessary to protect the ongoing harm to the interests of the company and the interests of its stakeholders.”
Ms. Chikongoro was suspended on February 28, to pave the way for investigations into the accusations against her. However, she resigned before the investigation could begin, which the board assured would be independent and impartial.
However, Ms Chikungoro has made allegations on social media suggesting that the charges are fabricated in pursuit of a personal and politicized agenda by some of the aforementioned individuals. Announce
