ALICK Macheso has a way of showing his joy – he cries.
The next time you see him shedding tears, it’s very likely that he will show his happiness.
On Friday, he did so after being overwhelmed with joy when he received a luxury gift of a 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE worth US$140,000 from businessman Wicknell Chivayo.
Macheso dedicated the car to his fans and to the people who raised him under very difficult circumstances.
“The car belongs to the fans of the Mbirikozvo Orchestra and all those who have always been there for us.
“I also dedicate this to all my late relatives who were close to me and I can only say that this is the gift we all received.”
Macheso (55) revealed the first time he met Chifayo.
“The first time I met him face to face with Sir Wicknell was last year in the Chisimbwe area of Madziva.
“We went there to beautify Toko’s grave with other family members and friends. I was following him on social media and was shocked to notice that (in real life) he is a humble guy. We talked for a few minutes.”
He added: “I was shocked when he told me that I was a legend and that something big would come my way.
“I realized that there are some people who value others and I never thought all of this would come my way.
“To be honest, I never expected this gift from Chifayo since there are so many talented artists out there.”
He revealed that he was congratulating other beneficiaries without knowing that his time would also come.
“When this program started, I was the first person to congratulate those who received cars from Wicknell.
“I did it from the bottom of my heart because I am one of those people who wants to see artists rise.
“Given my background and where I come from, this gift is a victory for the music industry in Zimbabwe.
“I was surprised to get a call from Victor, let’s just say it rained here today.” h metro
