The Zimbabwe Gender Equality Commission (ZGC) says it is still pursuing a case in which PhD Ministries leader Walter Magaya is accused of sexually assaulting women despite indications that some witnesses have gone cold.
In 2019, the ZGC called for victims to come forward as part of its investigations following several complaints against the Prophet.
The notice said that victims or witnesses to acts of sexual assault committed by the Prophet were supposed to provide the committee with “written complaints, witness statements, and any other supporting documents or evidence that could assist in the investigation.” Oral hearings will begin after that, she said.
ZGC CEO Virginia Mwanigwa said last week that the commission was actively pursuing the case. She said: “The case is still ongoing, the case is still open,” although she admitted that some witnesses were not present.
ZGC chairwoman Margaret Mukahanana-Sangaruye also said they are still waiting for more women to come out as they continue investigations. “We saw some posts on social media where several people were making claims about this case and indicating where they lived but they didn’t come forward,” she said.
