The widow of the late CIA Deputy Director-General Maynard Muzzarere has been accused of trying to sell his properties despite having outstanding dues. Issues that have not yet been finalized.
The matter came to light when the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) sought clarification from the Chief Justice after it emerged that his surviving wife, Esther Muzarire, was in the process of selling one of the deceased’s properties.
Al-Maziri’s property was not distributed 11 years after his death, as his wife continued to hold the property.
His death on April 12, 2011 revealed fears of widespread looting and asset stripping of senior government officials after he left an estate worth millions of dollars.
He left behind six children, but his wife registered only three in the estate, sparking a dispute that lasted for more than a decade.
Disgruntled claimants to the property approached the Chief Justice, claiming that Esther had not only retained the property – which includes at least eight houses, top-of-the-range cars, stalls in various locations and a thriving 800-hectare agricultural enterprise. -But he also did not record all the assets in the estate.
Al Maziri’s estate was registered under DR772/11 and on 12 July 2011 after holding a meeting he nominated his surviving wife for the position of CEO.
According to her lawyer Samukang Hungwe Attorneys, Esther held meetings with the approval of the Muzariri family and collected property within the estate which was presented to the Chief Justice.
The property was subsequently advertised in state-controlled media to the benefit of potential claimants and debtors of the property.
“On February 17, the Final Distribution Account was submitted to the Supreme Court and subjected to public inspection until it was approved and authorized as the Final Distribution Account on May 2, 2012,” part of its response read.
The Chief Justice has since halted the sale of any properties belonging to the estate until the matter is finalized.
Al-Maziri died at the age of 56. Al-Maziri died in St. Annes Hospital due to liver disease.
His name was synonymous with the Gukurahundi massacres in the Matabeleland provinces.
Known in CIO circles as a ruthless agent, Muzarare, along with the late Air Force Commander Bernce Shiri, presided over the Gukurahundi massacres in Matabeleland and the Midlands.
After gaining independence in 1980, Al-Maziri was appointed to the Prime Minister’s Office as an intelligence officer.
He was later promoted to internal director in April 1997.
In 2003, the late Robert Mugabe appointed him to the rank of Deputy Director-General in the President’s Administration, a rank he held at the time of his death. standard
