SUSPENDED COP, NIECE JAILED FOR TRAFFICKING WOMEN TO OMAN newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

Suspended police officer, Forward Mashunganyika, and his niece, Tendayi Musawi, were each sentenced to 20 years in prison for trafficking three women to Oman where they were turned into sex slaves.

The two were found guilty of the three charges after a full trial before Harare Regional Magistrate Ms Estiri Chivasa.

For sentencing purposes, the first two charges were treated as one offence, and the judge imposed two valid sentences of 10 years each.

Mousavi is serving a three-year prison sentence for committing a similar crime.

Prosecutor Mr Ngoni Kasiki established that in February 2022, Mashunganyika colluded with Tendayi Musawi and Hassan Mohamed Ali residing in Oman to traffic unsuspecting Zimbabwean women into that country for work and sexual assault.

They created a WhatsApp group where they advertised non-existent lucrative jobs in Dubai, UAE.

He recruited three victims after promising them high-paying hotel jobs, along with good working conditions in Dubai, and the victims fell into a trap of lies.

Mashunganika processed visas and air tickets as well as medical examination reports and facilitated the transportation of victims from Zimbabwe to Oman, instead of Dubai, as earlier promised.

The victims did not realize that they had been deceived until they arrived at Muscat International Airport in Oman.

Upon their arrival in Amman, Hassan Muhammad Ali Al Shehhi received the victims, confiscated their passports and took them to his base.

The victims were handed over to work as domestic maids and subjected to domestic slavery, where they worked around the clock without pay.

They were forced to feed on leftover food and were subjected to sexual and physical abuse.

The matter came to light when the victims reported their ordeal through Interpol and their relatives back home, who in turn reported the matter to the police for investigations, leading to the arrest of Mashunganika.

When they arrested Mashonjanika, police searched his home and discovered payments sent from his partner Hassan Ali Al Shehhi in Oman through money transfer agency Money Gram.

The victims were located and returned to their homeland.
