A self-proclaimed Kwekwe prophet, whose videos of assaulting worshipers went viral on social media, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison.
Simabvu Shiri, founder of Spring of Living Waters, faced three counts of assault against Peace Tapfumanei, Takudzwa Dube and Violet Ndhleleni.
Judge Shirley Tembo found him guilty of one count and there was no evidence on the other two. I found him guilty of assaulting Ndleleni.
Tembo suspended three months of the sentence on the condition that Cherry does not commit a similar offense in the next five years. She also transitioned for nine months to 315 hours community service at Mbizo Police Station effective 6 March 2024.
The Prophet was convicted based on his guilty plea.
Sherri was exposed when an audio recording of him assaulting Ndhleleni went viral on social media platforms.
The State’s case is that on 14 February 2024, Shiri invited Ndleleni along with two other church members identified as Mai Ndlovu and Mai Mutema to his place.
Upon his arrival, Ndleleni was accused of gossiping about him with other church members. The complainant tried to explain herself, but Bassey’s temper exploded and he slapped Ndleleni in the face and back several times. Masvingo mirror
