The woman who was saved by her two brave children after they fought a crocodile in Mundoro has praised her children as heroes who gave her a second chance at life.
Plantina Magaya was seconds away from being dragged underwater when her two children, Lukemore and his sister Bess, fell into the river and fought to save her life.
The two children are only 12 and 10 years old.
On Saturday, President Mnangagwa honored the two brave children at State House.
He offered to cover their educational expenses, up to university level, and gave them US$5,000 in cash each.
Plantina said she was grateful to President Mnangagwa for honoring her family.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank my children for giving me a second chance in life,” she said.
“I would like to thank President Mnangagwa and Honorable Sakobwanya for everything they have done for my children and me.
“Words alone are not enough, but I am truly grateful for everything that has been done for my family.”
I remembered the incident.
“I don’t remember anything that happened when those kids woke me up, all I remember is seeing them on top of me when I was about to be dragged into the river by the crocodile for the third time.
“At that moment, the crocodile was holding on to one of my hands, so I ordered them to hit it in the mouth.
“I don’t even know how I managed to catch the crocodile’s mouth.
“So, when they hit the crocodile’s mouth, they also broke my leg, and when I felt the crocodile letting go of me, I asked them to stop so they could pull me out of the water.
“Everything that happened I have no idea. All I remember is that I was drowning in water and I think that when we reach the village they will explain to me what really happened.” H Metro
