Former football star Elton Chimidza, who now works as a correctional officer, treats injuries sustained in an attack by robbers in Mabvuku.
The 42-year-old officer, who is stationed at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, was shot once on the forehead and once on the right jaw, where the attacker used an iron rod.
Chimidza, who played for CAPS United, was attacked while walking along Chakare Street, on his way from Moonlight Bar at around 9pm, while on his way home.
He is the older brother of former Warriors star, Sivas Chimidza, who now resides in Belgium.
Harare Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Lukemore Chakanza, confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating a case of robbery involving weapons where the complainant was attacked and left unconscious,” Insp Chakanza said.
“The circumstances indicate that on 23 February, at approximately 2100 hours, the complainant was returning home.
“While the complainant was passing through a dark area along Chakare Street, an unidentified person armed with an iron rod attacked the complainant.
“The person searched the complainant’s pockets and stole a brown wallet containing National ID Card, ZPCS ID Card, FBC Bank Card, PSMAS Card, Nyaradzo Card and a Nokia Cellphone C21.
“The complainant was referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical examination,” Insp Chakanza said. h metro
