A fire broke out in the Matapi Hostel Cloak room yesterday and set ablaze a number of bales of clothing leaving dozens of traders counting their costs in the thousands of dollars.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, as investigations are still ongoing.
The City of Harare Fire Brigade extinguished the fire at around 6am yesterday.
Council spokesman Stanley Gama said investigations are still ongoing.
“There was a fire in the Matapi Hostel Cloak room where bundles of clothes are kept and the fire brigade was able to put it out,” he said.
But we cannot determine the cause of the fire because the matter is still under investigation.”
Eyewitnesses who spoke to H-Metro said they had no idea how the fire started.
One witness, Stavo, said: “All we know is that people lost their belongings because there are bells for sale in Matapi.”
“We do not know how the fire broke out, but we all tried to put it out, but to no avail until the fire brigade arrived.” H Metro
