MUTUMBUKA HOUSE : THE FATAL MISTAKE newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

The suspects who forged the title deed of Dzingai Mutumbuka’s US$600,000 house in Chispite, Harare, made a huge mistake when they did not realize that the property consisted of two separate compact wings, the office of the Registrar of Corporate and Intellectual Property Deeds, Absalom Maguire, has said.

As a result, the suspects forged a deed for only one of the two listings living off the other, Maguire told Harare magistrate Ethel Chichira during the trial of Propster Beswick (43) and Tatenda Shaft Wakatama (44) on Tuesday this week.

Maguire said former Education Minister Mutombuka first bought Stand 184 Rolf Valley where the house is located and then bought neighboring Stand 183 Rolf Valley and put the two together and obtained a unified certificate for the two.

However, the suspects just dealt with the address of Suite 184 and not Suite No. 183 or the merger certificate mentioned by the registrar. This means they only have one wing, yet the property is consolidated.

The registrar said this was conclusive evidence that the property belonged to Mutombuka.

Maguire also told the judge that the suspects digitally forged the title deed.

The duo is suspected of working with officials from the Registry of Deeds. On 22 June 2021, the two, along with their accomplices Jonah Njome, Toray Makata and Peter Chigayo, who are still at large, forged the title deeds of the house No. 90, Harare Drive, Chisibete in Harare registered in Mutombuka’s name to be in Njome’s name. .

Two weeks ago, Lena Mlambo, the deeds office supervisor who is currently suspended, became hostile and retracted her statement that she was the one who issued the title deeds to the suspects. Masvingo mirror
