A lawyer who threatened to deal with a spiritual witness in a case in which she is accused of fraudulently obtaining a conversion certificate to practice law in Zimbabwe appeared in court on Friday.
Linda Kofi (34) is facing obstruction of justice charges before Harare Regional Magistrate Mr Stanford Mambangi.
She was remanded in custody until March 4, awaiting bail application.
The prosecutor, Mr Anisu Chiringi, alleged that sometime in 2023, Kofi was arrested by ZACC officers on charges of fraudulently obtaining a transfer certificate from the Zimbabwe Council for Legal Education (CLE).
A team of ZACC officers led by Chimusoro Elisha was tasked to investigate and deal with the matter.
Coffey was taken to court and released on bail and one of the conditions of her release was that she not interfere with the state’s witnesses.
The court heard that on 5 November 2023, Kofi contacted one of the state’s key witnesses, Shuray Tafadzwa Mubunga, and asked her about the evidence ZACC had presented against her.
She went on to tell Mubunga that there is a traditional healer known as Chief Dutito who is still at large, who she said saw a vision of her being attacked by evil spirits as a result of her involvement in CLE cases.
On the same date, the said Chief Dutito called Mubunga and warned her that she would be subjected to spiritual attack and would also be suspended if she continued to get involved in CLE cases.
All of this was done in an attempt to instill fear in the witness so that she could refrain from testifying against Coffey. Kofi allegedly appealed to Chief Dutito to use his spiritual powers to deal with the ZACC investigating officers and court officials who dealt. With her case, prosecutors Amnesty Dzifa and Lancelo Motsokoti, and judges Mariwanazvu Jova and Stanford Mambangi.
On 21 December, Kofi then colluded with some police officers and threatened to blacken the names of some ZACC officers investigating her.
Then on Thursday, after her arrest, Kofi warned one of the ZACC investigators, Senior Investigating Officer Shelton Gambesa, not to play a negative role in her case because something sinister would befall all the officers involved in her case. Announce
